Playground equipment was installed for residents at Hawaiian Home Lands at Paukukalo Park.   A dedication was held on June 2, 1999 on the island of Maui.   The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands along with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the Department of Parks and Recreation allocated $90,000 for the community improvement playground.

A total of forty volunteers from the community assisted in the playground work, site preparation, and spreading of the surfacing material for the playground.   The new playground will serve 210 children from Paukukalo and Waiehu Kou communities.   Volunteer groups were supported by Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. (Youth Bank), Paukukalo Hawaiian Home Lands Association, U.S. Army Reserve, and Hawaiian Home Lands residents.   Installation of the playground equipment was completed by Welker Construction.   The manufacturer of the equipment was Landscape Structures, Inc. working with Coast Recreation, Inc. on Oahu.
