MLSWCD Board of Directors Welcome Mr. James Boswell. James is the Agricultural Instructor at our Moloka`i campus of Maui Community College as well as a Hawaiian homesteader. He brings with him an outlook from students, academic and a farmers viewpoint. James will fill the seat on the board vacated by Ms. Babette Hoopai-Black and whose term will end June 2002. Watershed Restoration Action Strategy An approved contract with the Department of Health, Clean Water Branch, 319 (h) has kept staff busy and productive. The District will utilize its knowledge and experience with resource planning and conservation of the island and assist the State in meeting its goal to improve the water quality of South Moloka`i. The District will develop a Partnership Plan and a Plan of Work to guide the preparation of restoration efforts. This action strategy will involve:
The watershed approach was selected due to the vast environmental management area. An advisory group is currently being formed and the first meeting will take place on January 15, 2002 on Moloka`i. This project is a fast, cooperative and coordinated effort that is scheduled to be completed by July 2002.
